Pilates improves your flexibility, posture and strength all while helping to relieve stress.  But the real advantage of Pilates is that you won’t bulk up because your muscles become elongated instead of something akin to a running back’s calves.  My session began with series of exercises to assess my strengths and weaknesses for Sitara, director of Core Fit, knew better where to concentrate her expertise.  Then I practiced on the reformer, which is a really a very modern looking machine that put me in the mind of a torture instrument.  Basically, it’s a platform like structure that is outfitted with straps for your arms and legs to perform resistance exercises while controlling your breathing.  Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing support for the spine.  In the hour you practice Pilates, you will work out every single muscle group.  Additionally, Core Fit offers classes that offer specific concentrations such as Healthy Back, Bone Builder, Long Drive for the golfer, Hot Mama for pre/post natal candidates, and Eye Candy for toning muscles.
